Consciously Make this Time with God and not Just a Spiritual Exercise
I am assuming you are like me in that you don’t just want to hear or read about how great God is, you want to experience Him. You want to have God encounters. That is God’s will for you as well.
You need to know it will take time and practice to develop the spiritual sensitivity to interact with someone who is spirit. This takes practice because you cannot physically see, hear, or touch God. The spiritual world is real and powerful enough to create and impact the physical (Hebrews 11:2-3), but it is different than you are most conscious of.
The Bible tells us things about this spiritual world that we would otherwise have no way of knowing. For example it tells us:
God is with you wherever you are. He is with you all the time. Including right now.
God is the perfect blend of love, wisdom, justice, power, and goodness. He is light and in Him there is no darkness at all.
He loves you just the way you are and too much to leave you that way. And so much more.
Although He has mind-boggling power, He is not a force or energy or the universe. He is a person.
Because He is with you right now and He is a person, as you close the door to all other things crying out for your attention, choosing to spend time alone with Him, go ahead and open your mind, heart, and body to your Heavenly Father.
It is very, very possible to say your prayers and have zero interaction with God. The same with reading the Bible or singing songs of worship. You can pray and encounter God or pray and fulfill an obligation. The big key is where your focus is; is it on the person of God or on something else.
Don’t just make it “Quiet time” or “Bible reading time” or “saying your prayers.”
Make it God time.
I often say something like, “Father, thank you that you are with me right now. Thank you, that because of Jesus I can come with confidence into your presence. I open myself to you now.”
